Rowdy Rathore - Mass Entertainer
I am not sure whether it's a cultural exchange or bollywood is short of good original scripts, but from last few years South Indian movies are being successfully remade. Films like Ghajini, Wanted, Ready, Bodyguard & now Rowdy Rathore are all south remakes. Salman Khan is the biggest beneficiary of Hindi remakes of South Indian blockbusters; With Rowdy Rathore Akshay Kumar wants to follow Salman's footsteps. Story : Rowdy Rathore is a remake of the Telugu blockbuster Vikramarkudu. Shiva (Akshay Kumar), a petty thief in Mumbai falls in love with Priya (Sonakshi Sinha) Shiva promises Priya to give up crime forever & start a new life with her, as their love blossoms a young girl Neha enters Shiva's life. The young girl Neha, Rathore`s daughter mistakes Shiva as her father and starts living with him. Lots of twists, turns, & surprises arise in Shiva's life & rest of the movie deals with how he overcomes successfully. Star Performances : Rowdy Rathore is Akshay`s comeback film as an action star. This movie completely belongs to Akshay. He plays a double role in the movie & enjoys the dual responsibility bestowed on him, Akshay Kumar as conman Shiva is good with his comic timing. As Vikram Rathore, he seems to be trying too hard to play the honest cop. He has tried sincerely to bring in some changes in his acting style to suit the dual characters. Sonakshi Sinha as Priya is good in the limited role she is offered. Her simple looks, expressions & portrayal of multiple emotions are appreciated. Nassar, Mushtaq Khan, Anant Jog & other supporting cast lends the required support. Direction & Technical Aspects : Prabhu Devaa's direction is good but not great, he successfully manages to make narrative fast-paced and entertaining in parts. He concentrates more on style than substance. Background music by Sandeep Chowta is very effective. Saroj Khan, Prabhu Devaa and Bosco Martis' song picturisations are not up to the mark. Cinematography, by Santosh Thundiyil, is good. The action is highlight of the movie. Visual effects are appreciated. Sanjay Sanklap's editing is fair. Lyrics, penned by Sameer, Faiz Anwar, Shiraz Ahmed and Sajid, are just average. Dialogues by Shiraz Ahmed are outstanding. Production values are grand Music : Music by Sajid - Wajid is average. The soundtrack has nothing great to write. None of the songs could be remembered by the audiences at least to hum after coming out of the theatre. If the vulgar dances were not enough, we also have the double meaning lyrics adding to the discomfort of the viewers and listeners. The item song 'Aa Re Pritam Pyaare' Pallu ke neeche chupa ke rakha hai Utha doon toh hungama ho.... sung by Mamta Sharma & Sarosh Sami is a heady mix of vulgarity & profanity. Final Verdict : Despite being entertaining is some portions Rowdy Rathore is a crowd pleaser that knows exactly who its audience is. For die-hard fans of Akshay Kumar, this mass masala entertainer is a treat to watch. This is not a film that will stay in mind for long, but it's worth a one-time watch Tags: Rowdy Rathore About this Blogger
