Indiblogger Meet @ ISKCON bangalore

Converging on platform and blog for a social cause is a fantastic concept. How many of us can pull off such and excellent PR exercise. I accidentally came across this vibrant forum called Indiblogger.

Just imagine Vineet Rajan resigning from a highly paid corporate job in HP, i thought it was foolish on his part, but realised he is made for bigger things by joining his friends to start a blogging community. He is passionate about biking, owning a bullet. He believe in Horse Power, no wonder he is able to scout sponsorers for his forum and promoting it in an appropriate manner based in Mumbai.

The key word or caption we blog because we love India or whatever resembling that tag line of Indiblogger is gr8. This forum is a perfect blend of virtual world and reality. The combo of vibrant youth is overflowing and the way they conduct the meets in an informal way is to be experienced rather than go by my word. Lakshmi, Anoop, Mohan and many others form the core group of this forum.

The first time around i attended the program i invited my colleagues from Civil defence but this time around i myself came to know last minute but i sent SMS to them from the venue but alas nobody joined me from CD. But i thought i will introduce the concept to my better half and her colleague, so that they don t get wrong ideas that i am in bad company. Thank god my wife approved the same. If the Home Minister does not approve it is no big deal to be associated with a forum. So guys i have the endorsement of my partner.

One of the best part of their meet is you scratch my back i will scratch yours, they make mockery of the back biting nature of individuals.......it reveals the fact how frivilous back biting is all about. You get to know people in the bargain and get rewarded too for this effort.......how many of can think of rewarding BACKBITERS OR BACKSTABBERS LOL

Of course many of us are aware of ISKCON and their most popular initiative in Aksaya Patra, a concept of everlasting source of food. The concept of Mahabharat in the form of Draupadi cooking for her clan single handedly originates the idea. How many of us are aware that ISKCON is the world s biggest NGO feeding 1.2 million children, unfortunate. We may be ironically aware of the bickerings between two factions more than their good deed. I am sure people in India will recognise their good work for their noble motto, that no child should become illiterate because their parents are poor. Education is a gr8 leveller, and having good food is mandatory for every human being. Let us not waste food.....pl spare a thought for those who may be sleeping on empty belly and combating biting winter up north.

Now i will stop rambling guys, if you are interested do blog and share your thoughts. Good bloggers may not be articulate in speech making or delivering lectures but when you meet informally on a Sunday noon, you let loose your tongue in midst of dynamic bloggers, you will know that you have arrived in the world of Blogging. Nothing can get better for the blogging community in India like Indiblogger, let us wait and watch their progress.....a day may not be far away if one will find HOUSEFULL board in all their meets.

CIVIL DEFENSE

What is civil defense Deepak asked me a question the other day. This diary is posted for sake of all. CIVIL DEFENCE is basically a citizens army concept established under an act of a parliament in 1968. A well trained citizens group is formed to be pro-active to prevent and handle disasters such as fire, accidents, salvage, rescue operations during civil times. This is purely a voluntary service under an oath. Once you have taken a oath to serve the people of India, there is no going back. Excuse that one is busy and unable to find time would definitely be downer and let down. Come friends let us examine the minutest of incident which could lead to major disasters ?

Imagine a water pump being flogged to fill up an overhead tank in an old apartment. Some societies run the motor continuously for upto 3 hours continously to fill their overhead water tanks. Imagine the building is 10 years old and four blocks are situated and all four blocks are running their motors simultaneously. What happens in such a situation instead of 1 kv uniform load 5 kv load is required to run 4 motors. The electrical wirings are old and their life is diminishing. It is an excellent receipe for disaster. Most apartment fires take place because of electrical short circuit.
Imagine a water pump being flogged to fill up an overhead tank in an old apartment. What happens in such a situation instead of 1 kv uniform load 5 kv load is required to run 4 motors. The electrical wirings are old and their life is diminishing. It is an excellent receipe for a major disaster like carlton towers. Most apartment fires take place because of electrical short circuit.

So what do we do here, change the rules of the game, run 1 hour motor on a staggered basis. So run it on rotation basis from 4 am to 8 am. This would prevent motor over heat as well as prevent short circuit. It will obviously put less load on the transformer supplying power. just try it and be proactive. In case of short circuit and sparking, if one of the sparks light the petrol tank of a fully loaded car with gallons of fuel, it is bound to spread like a wild fire, and all cars in the basement would be on fire. No fire force is capable of handling such a fire. It would be equvalent to a atom bomb with all the residents in the apartment in danger of being fried in tandoor.

So what do we do here, change the rules of the game, run 1 hour motor on a staggered basis. It should be like a tornado of water, so friends keep your tanks at least 5 feet full if your capacity is 8 feet. I don t want to scare you people with such scenario. Look at Burj tower at Dubai, they have a swimming pool at 114 floor to fight a major fire. The release of water from such height in a controlled manner would fight any fire in the 113th floor and below. The idea of building a swimming pool at that height now makes sense, is it not ?

So friends come and join Civil defense movement, and be a part of a proactive group of citizens. Help to serve the society in your spare time and busy time to prevent accidents and disasters. Act when it is required.....don t wait for instructions. One does not require an instruction from his boss to fight a fire and help a fellow citizen in trouble. The constitution of India indemnifies such acts done in good faith.

Our DGP's aim is to make Karnataka a model for civil defense in India. We are seeking corporate sponsorship for tree plantation drive, already 2 companies have shown their interest. Help your family and society in handling disasters. Even if we have a trained force of 25,000 volunteers in Bangalore we can handle any disaster. The motto of civil defense is to protect people and property, which will include the animals too. Don t you think it is noble and exciting task. Welcome to Civil defense..............

Eunuch Experience

Eunuchs in olden days were used to guard the queen and the consorts of the kings. The royalty ensured that they were gainfully employed in their services to protect the chastity of their women folk. The etymology of the word Eunuch does have origin in Greek which meant keeper of Bed.

Eunuch tradition in India is quiet ancient, and their importance is revealed in Child birth, for couples seek their child to be blessed from not becoming Hijras. They have the role to play in wedding ceremonies, house warming ceremonies and other happy occasion. Some believe their blessing works wonders and their curse invites the wrath of the gods.

Begging is an easy way out for these Eunuchs in India. They accost passengers in cars at most traffic signals in all metros, earlier it was weekly affair, now it has become a daily routine for them. They exploit the fear psycho, on Indian traditional believe that they possess occult powers. However I believe Hindu law of Karma will catch up with them eventually.

Normally I have a tendency to be pity their plight and dole out change voluntarily. But if it comes to blackmailing tactics I am the least one to pressurized into parting my hard earned money. Recently I found a Hijra in train troubling M Tech students, who were traveling as co-passengers to write an entrance exam for BEL probationary Engineers, one of them parted with Rs 5, but this Hijra was greedy for more. I told the students not to budge to her blackmailing tactics.

This particular Hijra understood English and started abusing me with expletives. I got charged up. I told her to work, I will give Rs 50 for cleaning the wet compartment. She refused and continued her cursing. I got angry and said no money from my side. She was annoyed and she told me that it is her right to beg. Suddenly I got a stink of liquor from her mouth. I said I will not sponsor your drink dear, get lost. She retorted it is my wish how I spend what I have earned.

The co-passengers who were ready to give her money saw the logic in my arguments and refused to part with their hard earned money to feed the vice of this greedy Hijra. She had an accomplice, who advised her to scoot before the TT and other co-passengers rough them up. She listened to her advice and took to her heels and started her begging habit.

In the noon once again a Hijra came to beg, now the Engineering students had learnt their lesson the hard way, they ignored and refused to give alms. She did not dare to ask the angry old man. Now friends I may be wrong in my approach but for me instinct told me that we should never succumb to blackmail whether from one;s mother or an outsider. I thank my dad to instill this sense of fairness. Never say Yes when you know it is wrong, whomsoever it may. If you have to take the battle to enemy camp, take it.

Ancient days Eunuchs protected chastity of women modern days they are engaged in ripping the modesty of MEN

Karate Kid Movie Review

It is not the fall or defeat but how one picks up self and defends or defeats the opponent in a battle royale is the plot of the movie. Dre Parkar ( Jaden Smith ) along with his mother shift from Detroit to Beijing due to the recession hitting the automobile sector.

Dre Parkar manages to speak a little bit of broken chinese and is unable to cope with the local bully boys. He is able to communicate and become friendly with Meiyang ( Wenwen Han ), which is a cause for heartburn among the chinese boys. The Chinese boys want Dre to stay away from Meiyang because of J factor. They knock him down quite crudely due to superior Kung fu practise.Dre cannot digest the fact that he is beaten to pulp by the big bullies, and starts avoiding their gang. He literally hides away from their vicinity. It is heartening to note that this dynamite character has potrayed his role brilliantly.

The chinese boys are trained by their master to show no mercy to their opponent, even if the guy is fallen and totally subjugated. He imparts a training of killer instinct. Naturally Dre cannot join their school to learn the fine art of Kung Fu.Dre comes across Han ( Jackie Chan ) who is working as a maintainence man doing odd jobs such as plumbing, carpentary and repairing his old accident ridden car. He initially refuses to teach Dre Parker Kung Fu. But how the circumstances change over and provokes him to teach the young kid Kung Fu is the crux of the plot.

The chinese locale is beautifully shot in the background. It is a tourist delight to watch some of the loveley monuments and mountains, and the great wall of China is well used as a backdrop. Overall Karate Kid is an inspiring and awesome movie with a message. Jackie Chan's acting is one of the best in his lifetime, as an aging martial arts expert doing odd errands. I am sure he should receive some international award for the same. Karate kid is all about an attitude of an young boy blended with experience of the martial arts expertise of Jackie Chaan.............The last scene is ultimately the climax of the movie, watch it for the sheer thrill of watching an emotion packed action movie

Politics is survival of the schemiest

had read a wonderful novel by Sidney Sheldon i presume where a character Damien gets rid of all his enemies by his brilliant arguement

and wins legal cases with aplomb. Once he even consumes poison in front of the judge which is potent and one can be killed with 30 minutes and proves that his client is innocent. Such are the maverick characters in the Prakash Jha film Rajneeti.

The movie is well packaged with shades of the current political scenario and where sleaze, betrayal, booze and money power play an important role in deciding the destiny of the leaders. However at the national level the cleansing to a large extent has taken place, the state politics is murky and dirty. Leg pulling is order of the day. Horse trading is surprising not dealt with in greater detail in the movie.

Two families decide the destiny of a political state, i can definitely relate the storyline to Bihar, wherein the film has been extensively shot. Some of the scenes wherein the crowd assembly for the election rally is the main highlight of the movie making. The characters of Manoj Bajpai gives a real feel of the villanious politician, who would go to any extent to achieve their goals. Ultimately the political leadership is about the number game, one strives to achieve it either through bullet or ballot.

Ranbir Kapoor’s role has shades of Al Pacino in Godfather. Nana Patekar plays the role of Shakuni mama in a sober style. Arjun Rampal is seen as the incumbent to head the CM’s post how circumstances change is really interesting twist in the movie. How shameless are some of our leaders despite being bed ridden would like to call a shot in the party decision making is highlighted in the movie.

Katrina Kaif and Sarah Johnson add glamour and glitz to political drama. I felt Katrina’s style was slightly resembling SONIA, but her character has been etched with great care. For the first time we can get to see her really acting and living the role instead of being a cosmetic part of the movie.

Length of the movie adds to movie goers interest, i am sure Jha would make at least one sequel if not two of the movie. Some of the dialouges of the movie are quite profound. Never betray one’s you love, Promises are meant to be broken in Politics, Trapping personalites on sleaze and lust is order of the day even though it being consensual.

The movie is a good lesson for those who don t understand politics. Even if one is not interested in politics one should be aware of the means employed by politicians to eliminate oppositon. How politicians make money to fund their campaign is very well potrayed in the movie. Rajneethi is all about ultimately grabbing the seat of power. Some may say it has shades of Godfather or even Mahabharat, but what difference does it make as long as one gets to enjoy the magic of movie........

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY 2 DEV

EK DOSRE SE KARTE HAI PYAAR HUM,
EK DOSRE KE LIYE BEKRAR HAI HUM,

The above song from the blockbuster movie HUM reminded us of DEV's celeberation of his 25th marriage anniversary in Bangalore. Even the heavens came showering down with thundurous rainfall setting up for the occasion.I flagged off the event with an SMS at 7 am literally waking up the couple in their cosy air condition hotel room. Than i wished him personally by calling him 30 minutes later.

Jaydeep sent a bouquet to greet the couple, which was a pleasant surprise.....don t ask me what time ? it was delivered at his room.Next we decided to the purchase a gift for the occasion, which we deliberated and finally zeroed in on to a photo album, maybe it would serve as reminder of the occasion when they celeberate their next anniversary. We took our doggie to introduce the puppy to their daughter Shalini.

Shalini suggested TIA as the name instead of TINA, which we agreed since it is SMS format of TINA.Along with Avinash and Dev we went to M.G. Road to exchange currency and than purchased a pp folder to store his documents at Gangaram. Next appointment of DEV was cancelled due to an unprofessional or shady organisation. Anyways all things happens for the good as destined. We decided the best way to spend rest of the day was to do window shopping at Mantri mall, which was memorable event. But what about our tummy. We need to fill the vaccum, so we had a good vegetarian cuisine at Krishna Bhavan. Than we proceeded to the mall to check out. We were stopped by the security refraining us from carrying TIA into the Mall, we requested in vain. Security would not budge an inch. We had to leave Avinash outside to fend the doggie.Dev was impressed at the glitz and glamour of the mall which he equated to some he had exprienced abroad.

The first picture shot was at Candy stall. Next we went and shot a picture of Shalini and her mother outside Printo, than an idea flashed why not get the picture developed in A 4 size. Well we got into action. We tried it with 2 pics. Than DEV liked the output. He decided we will have Shalini's profile and we decided to shoot 4 more pics for development. We approached Marks and Spencer with a bold and innovative idea which boomaranged, but we never gave up hope, since we would like to follow up on the same in future.

Next we proceeded to PU education board to check out Avinash's result of re-evaluation, which was delayed. We proceeded thereon to meet my wife and introduce the couple at her bank. After a quick introduction, we rushed home for the GODREJ service person was waiting to collect the damaged chairs, check my review on the same. Oh my goodness, the day was packed so far.

The finale of the celeberation was made grand with entry of ANNA, who surprised them with an anniversary cake. He gave them a sweet surprise to make the occasion memorable. He was kind enough to sponsor KSCA dinner venue. Next Mazhar bhai came with a flamboyant style and wished the couple. Azam bhai gave the ultimate gift of shawl. The night ended with cocktail and ravishing dinner sponsored by DEV. It was more momentous for us along with couple those who missed out ........on the occasion can enjoy this despcription and try to add flavour to the event.

Marriages are made in heaven but have to be experienced on Earth for a long long time. Our best wishes to the couple for a golden jubilee.

Doggie's day

On my trip to Native place, we were suprised to find a female doggie being offered to us on a platter. This doggie yet unamed is a rare cross breed of Dobberman and Pomerian. The colour of the doggie with tinge of brown and white was inviting. The other two male litters were booked. Our option was the female pup.NOW begins the ardous journey of bring up a pup. I just had an inkling that it is bound to be a difficult choice to breed a pet. It requires constant attention. We started with the purchase of feeding bottle, to feed milk, once we take possession, it will not have the benefit of breast feeding from its mom Julie.Next we had to purchase a carry basket which our neighbour helped us in the endeavour. To tame the shrew we had to constantly practise bottle feeding. The neighbourhood children gleefully came to our aid. Next we had to practise to seat the puppy in the plastic basket. It used to create a racket. Then we switched to rocking the pup while walking, with the pleasant breeze and rocking movement, the puppy started getting sleepy. This was our experiment to carry off the same by train to Bangalore from Mlore. Now came the d day, yesterday, and we had to make the ardous journey of managing the puppy all the way to Bangalore by train. I did a quick research and found that the puppy had to be carried compulsorily in brake van, which needed booking in parcel office. We travelled by bus without much disturbance to the railway station from Mulki. Next when we went to the parcel office we got a shock of our life when he mentioned that he will check whether there is provision for puppy kennel in the train. Otherwise we have to abandon the puppy in the station. Our desire to breed a dog would have come to a premature end. Luckily the booking clerk confirmed that the train has provision of dog kennel. I came to know only day time trains have this provision. One has to pay Rs 50 as ticketing charge for the puppy booking. Next one has to approach the guard in the brake van. He arrives almost at the neck of the moment when the train departs. We went to deposit the puppy after checking in our luggage. The guard saw the puppy and knew it can be handled in our compartment. He allowed us to carry the same along with us, which we gleefully accepted. Initially the doggie was quiet, but he showed his colour by moaning once he felt that he had enough sleep. I had to carry it across to the door for the breeze and rocking motion to once again make the doggie asleep. This exercise continued almost 5 times, with intermittent breaks for feeding the doggie.Luckily the entire crowd was with the doggie and curious, they used to come and pamper the puppy now and than. The children were thrilled. It made our 12 hours journey fly like a wind in a tunnel. The scenary and stormy climate added to the beauty of our experience. Now comes the crucial decision of naming the female doggie. Any suggestions friends.

Malpe, finest beach in India

Malpe beach is one of the finest beach in India. The golden sand, peaceful waves, safe swimming surface, camel rides, kite flying, etc along with Paradise resort is a total package for the tourist visiting Dakshin kanara. The distance of Malpe beach from the main town is around 6 kms. It is well connected with all modes of transport, autorikshaw return fare would cost 150 to 200 bucks depending on the waiting time spent on the beach. Buses ply between the port and city and from there the beach is 1 km away. The Malpe port is the entry point to St Mary's Isle too. Why i consider Malpe beach as the safest beach is due to the fact the steep inclination of the waves and sand is absent in Malpe beach. Even a non swimmer can safely venture into the water neck deep and enjoy splashing around for hours to-gether.
I remember my dad took me to Malpe beach when our Late PM Indira Gandhi was brutally assasinated on 31st October 1984. The enitre town was barricaded with curfew because of riot like situation. My dad wanted us to enjoy the unscheduled holidays of 3 days. Our daily routine was to visit the beach in the morning, with a black flag installed on our car, to avoid being arsoned by the crowd.

The water was greenish blue, and less salty. My dad took me neck deep into the water boldly despite knowning that we did not learn to swim. That was a great feeling with 5 cousins giving us company. This experience became firmly etched in my memory even after 26 years. Today the scenario on Malpe beach has vastly changed from a rustic environs to broad roads and well designed parking bays for vehicles. The crowd is very sober with hardly any foreigners seen loitering around. The beach is total family package and fun spot for an evening. The Sun set hues is magnificient, the photography can be mind blowing with a good digital camera.

Malpe happens to be a fishing harbour, the stink can be abnoxious for vegetarians, if one prefers to stay away from the foul smell one of the best option is to visit paradise resort beach of Malpe and avoid St Mary's Isle. The ferry point for going to St Mary's Isle passes through the fishing harbour. The cusines particularly sea food is excellent. One can have an excellent cusine of South canara sea food at Panchratna paradise near High court, Keydioor near Udupi bus stand, Karavalli and Sharada international on the highway. Even Paradise Resorts have put a sign board that they offer accomodation @ Rs 1500 above per day. The various means of reaching the destination from Bangalore are by day train, night train, flight to Mlore, and frequent buses to udupi. One the best recommended mode is day time train travel from Bangalore winding through the Bisle ghat in saklespur, which is a bonus and extremely economical

Dont Blame only Pilot for AI Crash

The tragic aircrash at Mangalore which resulted in the loss of 158 lives, with 8 miraculously escaping the tragedy speaks volume of the risk involved in safe landing. This tragedy is close to my heart because of the simple reason that the airport is situated so close to my roots at Derebail.

Various speculations are rife regarding the cause of the tragedy, some of them are as follows :

1. Table top airport, like Bajpe is receipe for disaster, but 32000 odd landings since1951 proves otherwise.
2. Pilot error seems to be the cause of the crash, switch over at the last minute couldbe the cause from main pilot to co-pilot.
3. Safe landing diktat from AI bosses must have forced pilot to float precariouslyat high speed before attempting a landing.
4. ATC hints at communication break with the pilot, which has disabled them fromwarning about overshooting the landing point.
5. At 200 km speed the pilot would have had approximately 40 secs to control thethe aircraft, which is sufficient time to apply the brake.
6. The tyre burst would have caused the plane to veer uncontrollably.
7. Applying brakes at high speed was definitely a receipe for disaster.
8. A semi wet airstrip too would have caused skidding to a large extent.

According to my judgement the aircraft had landed beyond the threshold limit of 700 feet, The landing would be close to 4000 feet beyond specification which would have reduced the response time to 20 seconds, which is too close to comfort zone for any pilot to manauovre. Ultimately it is the front tyre burst which had caused the tragedy, which made braking and skidding a sure shot reason for the disaster. Ulitmately it seems nature and mechanical failure have conspired for this aircraft disaster. The black box would only reinforce this theory. If the airplane had landed within the threshold limit and with tyre bursting it would have probably put the airport terminus in danger, either way disaster was waiting to happen due to mechanical failure.

It is very easy to blame the pilot for such a disaster, who would like to survive every flight for sake of his family. I am sure the pilots would be exonerably discharged from the blame game which is currently going on.In the meanwhile we are with the families of those who have lost their near and dear ones in the tragedy. The destiny smiled on the lucky 8 who miraculously escaped from the disaster. The plane bursting into flame consumed the majority lives, who could have escaped like the lucky 8 despite the disaster. But destiny had its say. May god bless the departed souls. RIP.ACK : Deccan herald news, analysis independent.

TOOTHLESS TIGER

Dentures bring back the smile for an individual who has lost his teeth, but it will not give one a natural bite and sensation which is vital for producing the digestive juices i presume. If one goes to a dentist the dilemma faced is to go by their advice or to seek informed opinion on various options of treatment for dental problem. My travails of dental treatment begins from 1985 when i was exposed to consumption of plenty of sweets and toffees as a brand manager in a confectionery company. I used to visit the dentist who was aware of my profession being involved in tasting various samples and finally approving the product for marketing. The dentist used to routinely perform his duty filling the cavities and extracting the tooth. Later when I shifted to Mumbai again dentist concerned advised me that nothing as such can be done to save my tooth in 1996.It was disheartening but i was determined to save all my tooth. I stopped consuming sweets, but got addicted to coke.I was declared diabetic in 2002, and from thereon i had to be absolutely careful, i cut all the crap and went on strict dieting, but it was not for long. I avoided all forms of sweets and carbonated drink, except on rare occasions.

One fine day i decided in 2005 to visit the doctor and got the tooth cleaned. But the cleaning of calculus was final straw i started loosing tooth rapidly. I lost almost 8 tooth within a span of 3 years. Earlier i had lost 8 tooth due to extraction. Over a period of another 5 years i lost another 8 tooth due to decay and mobility. Now the remaining 8 tooth is just enough for me to chew and manage.

I wanted to get my denture done to bring back my smiles at a reputed dental hospital. I was advised RPD ( removable partial denture ) by retaining the existing tooth by the professor. The intern concerned was ready to take measurement and get the denture organised, but he thought he may not be really perfect, so he referred my case to his senior PG student. Here my travails began once again. The PG student examined and told me get my tooth cleaned for calculus deposit, which is reluctantly obliged. I was afraid the cleaning process will result in mobility and ultimately leading to extraction of the tooth. I got my cleaning done and PG student was supposed to get on to denture fabrication, but she examined and told me that i have to get 4 tooth extracted which i refused.I showed her the signboard in the room " PRESEVATION IS BETTER THAN REPLACEMENT " Van Hans.

She refused to bite and stuck stubbornly that i should get my tooth removed. On the hindsight i found it was a ego problem for her. I decided to duck being a toothless tiger. She made a note in my file stating that treatment will not be undertaken by her unless extraction is carried out. She said that i can get my treatment done outside which infuriated me. After donating 5 lakhs to institution for Engineering admission of my friends son, this sort of response was appalling.

I decided to approach the PRINCIPAL of the college. I explained my dental history and requested him to help me out of this situation. He too intially supported the PG students contention, but ultimately obliged me with my wishes. He called and instructed the Prof to carry out denture as a compromise formula. In medical practise there are two opinions which may be divergent, and when one is faced with a dilemma one should go by the gut feel and the comfort factor.

When it comes to dental treatment, one should be aware that some of the line of treatment can be experimental, and if one makes a mistake than the patient suffers for a life time of embarrassment. I was fighting to retain my natural tooth and thereby avoid being called a TOOTHLESS TIGER Lol. I refused to get treatment done on the same day, at least it would make her feel that she has won the battle for day. Every dog has his day i suppose
