How to answer the question - why should we hire you
Let's assume you are applying for the post of a company's in house computer technician and you are asked this question at an interview, what should a reasonable answer sound like? Let's start from the competitive edge. Talk about your competitive edge By competitive edge I mean anything that gives you an advantage over anyone vying for the same position. A good example of competitive edge could be hands on Experience. Another could be professional training and further still a good answer could go like this 'I have 3 years experience working as a computer technician and have served so many clients both as a self employed computer repairs expert and as an employed technician at (the name of your former or current employer) where I have distinguished myself so often'. This answer tells the employer that you are not only qualified for the job but that if you are hired you will perform optimally. You could continue 'Besides I have industry certified qualifications such as Advanced Diploma in A+ and CCNA which makes me a certified professional technician and IT personnel'. My list of records speak for themselves (you can mention some of your job relevant achievements from previous employment)'. This addition tells your employer that you are not a quack but are a recognized expert in your field. In addition to the above stated you could also add a bit of pep talk to make the interviewer feel there is more you could offer besides your skills and experience. In that case you could go with something like this 'I believe my coming to this company is for our mutual benefit (emphasize both the company and myself). I have been looking forward to working in an organization that offers me the kind of technical and professional challenge that will make me continually improve and become better at what I do, therefore my coming here will be like bringing me to into a new family and I'll be delighted to put in my best. Bad Answers to Give If by chance you happen to say any of the following things, then you are well and truly on your own. You can kiss that job goodbye. For instance saying something like ÂI need the money, I have a wife and kids to support and things are not going fine financially for me this is a very bad answer to give even if you are telling the truth. The interviewer may politely tell you I'll get back to you, but that will never happen. Don't become emotional hoping to win sympathy, rather be professional and reasonable. Another bad answer could be I hear this company pays really well and has some fantastic welfare package, since you obviously need the best hands to work for you, here I am when can I resume for work? The interviewer may not mind laughing at you to let you know how silly you sound but even if he doesn't you deserve a slap for this kind of reply. Don't be greedy and imprudent when you answer this question and even if you must be greedy at least be subtle and prudent without giving yourself away. Final Tips on how to answer why should we hire you If you want to answer this question really well then; 1. Put yourself in your employer's position Why would he hire anyone? Obviously because that person is qualified for the job and also has the right attitude for the job keep this at the back of your mind whenever you are asked this question. 2. Talk about your qualifications Talk only about the things that apply to the job and show that you are qualified in terms of having the relevant skills, experience and knowledge of the job function. 3. Display the right attitude The right attitude your employers would want to see include; being confident, being honest in your replies, brevity (going straight to the point by mentioning only relevant details and removing unnecessary details) and prudence. Don't be a show off but a little boasting is okay provided it does not go beyond your skills and achievements.
