Prof. Amartya Sen - the Best Candidate for the Indian President's Post
Posted by J. N. Bhattacharjee on 07 May 2012
It transpires that New Delhi is at present abuzz with activities for Presidential election. Biggies of all political parties are on the move and engaged in hectic parleys. Some names are also afloat.
Meantime, Shri Sharad Pawar, NCP President had made a pertinent observation for choosing a non-political personality for the august post.
Believing Shri Pawar still sticks to his stand and taking the cue, one is encouraged to name Prof. Amartya Sen, a non-political person as the ideal candidate for the presidential post. Prof. Sen, a Nobel Laureate, is one among few Indians known and held in esteem for his credentials in the world at large. He is erudite, humanitarian by conviction and above all secular. He is however no stranger to political dogmas and persuasions and their practices raging over the world .He may if occasioned figure as a guide to the central government either floundering or purposeful.
It is fervently hoped that our political bosses would deign to honour Prof. Sen and also make the country proud by installing him as the next occupant of the Rashtrapati Bhawan.

A veteran who has contributed so much to the Indian cinema and who has fostered friendship of India with so many other countries of the world could be considered for the coveted post of the President of our country. I am referring to Yusuf Khan Saheb i.e.Dilip Kumar

Sometimes I feel the post of president of India is reserved for film stars... how does one become eligible for the president of India by contributing to Indian cinema, can anybody explain to me? Thanks a lot in advance.

Prof Sen had mentioned somewhere that the chair of Indian president occupies the last position in his own list of priorities. And definitely Mr Pronob Mukherjee and Dr Manmohan Singh would not like to see an eminant economist to be the first citizen of India. Then he would definitely take regular classes on public finance and welfare economics and both the above mentioned people along with Montek Singh Alluwalia would have to be present !!!

If a useless wreck like Rekha can be elected to the Rajya Sabha, Yusuf Khan Saheb definitely can be considered for the country's top post. There is no personality today more respectable than Yusuf Saheb.

Yesterday I was watching the news on TV, Several Names were suggested by various intellectuals, some of the strong contenders for the President's post were Vice-President Hamid Ansari, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Congressman Karan Singh, former Speaker Somnath Chatterjee and NCP leader PA Sangma, former President APJ Abdul Kalam, Chief Election Commissioner SY Quraishi, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, SPís Mulayam Singh Yadav etc. But my choice is APJ Abdul Kalam, He is the only one among the talked about contenders who can inspire everyone in our country.

APJ Kalam had one term and I think he was the the most popular president in the recent memory but he could not take tough decisions or even a position on many political matters, what do you say about this?
