A blog is a personal online diary maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary and description of events. The term blog came from the word "web log" which was coined by John Barger in 1997. Peter Merhloz broke the word web log into the phrase "we blog" in 1999 and then the word became popular as both a noun and verb. Everyday bloggers are writing about 200K posts around the world on various topics ranging from personal diaries to world polictics. Blogging has become so popular in India that our Bollywood actors have also started unveiling their thoughts through their personal blogs. Fashion and style have been characterized with women for a long time. Girls are almost obsessed with fashion and the fashion industry?s major clients are women. However, men are swiftly catching up and it seems they are more informed about the latest fads than some women. This change has brought out the new line of men called the metrosexuals. Guys have started spending as much as women on designer tees and branded jeans. Colored hair, piercing, tattoos, hair bands and ear studs; you can find one in 3 guys sporting these nowadays. Girls are going gaga over well dressed men and men don't seem inclined to disappoint women. Look at David Beckham. Well, I'm sure you already have but I was just referring to his being a metrosexual and a style icon. He sports different hairdos and an ear ring and you can almost never find him dressed out of fashion. Leaving star footballers aside, take a look around your own locality. You will find all the teenager guys and also their adult counterparts sporting cool hairdos and wearing branded clothes. There was a time when female actors wore designer saris and awesome outfits in the films and every girl wanted to have a dress just like the actor wore. Now, the male actors are out dressing females and the guys are mobbing hair salons to get that star like hairdo or going mall hopping looking for the shirt that the actor wore. When Abhishek Bachhan started sporting a hair band, a few eyebrows were raised but very soon it became a style statement. Hrithik Roshan's look in Dhoom2 won him a MTV Lycra Style Award. Even cricketers like Yuvraj Singh and M.S. Dhoni have become style icons. Style has become a part of every urban man's lifestyle. These new fashion conscious men are also topping the most wanted lists of women. Being fashionable now doesn't get you only approving looks, it also gets you preference. Brands and designer wears are growing in number and so are the buyers. There are even fashion magazines exclusively for men. From waxing their chest to getting their eyebrows done, the new age men will do anything and everything to look good. Actually I'm pretty confused about the definition of 'girlie' now. Women used to rant about gender equality and now men have decided to maintain the equality. After all change is the only constant in life. I don't agree that men's fashion is a recent trend, with the income level rising we may see more men going to spa and salons but it was always there. There are still many women who don't care much about fashion and grooming, or they cannot afford to, larger India is still living in villages and so we should not try to interpret things from the urban perspective.
