In Islam a man can have four concurrent wives and Pakistan being a "pure" Islamic nation based on the tenets of Quran grants this right to its every Muslim citizen but still does not recognize a Hindu having one single wife.
It is not clear whether Quran calls for this discrimination but the fact is that it exists in Pakistan, which boasts itself as one of the purest Islamic state. Pakistan's leading English daily Dawn published this news today which has been appended below by me for Indian readers without any alteration. -- AS part of the movement for the rights of scheduled caste Hindus in Pakistan, activists called on Thursday for the promulgation of a law formalising Hindu marriages. The fact that many Hindu couples still cannot acquire legal proof of marriage has implications broader than simply a lack of recognition by the state; it can become a significant hurdle when trying to get national identity cards, filing for divorce, obtaining property rights or even travelling within the country as a couple without facing harassment. Speakers at Thursday's conference also pointed out that it makes it difficult to file cases in instances of abductions and forced conversions leading to remarriages, and that the lack of a CNIC makes it harder to cast votes. In the absence of legal documentation, Hindu couples are dependent on circumstantial evidence such as wedding photographs, the whims of the particular official they are dealing with, or lawyers' affidavits, if they are able to procure these. But more than an administrative inconvenience, this state of affairs runs counter to the constitution's guarantee of equality for all citizens. Given the recent murders of two major public figures fighting for minority rights, now would be a good time to pass a law regarding Hindu marriage registration to reinforce that Pakistan's minorities have the same rights as its Muslim population. Nor should it be a particularly controversial law for politicians to back; it is simply inertia, it seems, that has resulted in the long delay despite court cases, protests as well as a Supreme Court notice asking the government to look into the matter. Marriage is one of the most basic buildings blocks of our society and a common human aspiration. Denying its formal recognition to a specific portion of the population cannot be classified as anything other than discrimination.

COSMICBOMBER@your statement"In Islam a man can have four concurrent wives" is the reason behind Islam becoming the second largest population in this world. They increase their population size in geometric progression series (G P Series). You have very prudently quoted The Dawn regarding information of discrimination practiced against minorities in Pakistan. In Pakistan and Bangladesh the minorities are treated very poorly which the Muslims of India can not even think of. Still our Muslim friends cry that they are treated as second class citizens in India. The majority of Indians are believers of a religion which teaches it's followers tolerance, teaches to treat every human being with dignity and respect.That is why in India people from different religion can live peaceful life, practice their religion freely and without any fear.The God himself took birth in this holy, great country, many Sadhus, seers also took birth in India and made this country a great place to to live.

@dannym, (the disguised rss swamsevak behind a christian name), is it the teaching of "ahimsa" that your great religion professes to kill fetus? and specially female fetus? Don't make me laugh with your doublespeak.
But it is comendable to see the unit of RSS where as my muslim brothers in the forum are silent even when Islam is attcked. You once mentioed that you studied teh Koran and so if you have studied then you cabbbot say that <uslim are given a license to have four wives, there are social and scientific reasons why Prophet (p.b.u.h) allowed this but only under special conditions. JAMAlI@ Why are you praying to Cosmic Bomber to write something in your favour and help you. Are you defenseless? It's a pity. Let me give some examples of untouchability practiced by Muslims:
1) Moslems object to quadiani Moslems being called Moslems at all. 2)Moslems refuse to allow the burial of a Quadiani in their greavyeards. 3)Shia villages sacked, looted and razed to the ground.Riots between hanafi and non Hanafi 4) Shia-sunni disputes in india and elsewhere are more freequent and more prolific of fights than Hindu Moslems generally. 4) High class moslems have no social relations with Moslem Kalus, Jolas, Nakaris etc. 5) Moslem fishermen(1/5 of local Moslems of Sylhet( a place in east Bengal) treated as outcast by other local moslems 6)Untouchability is seen in places like cemeteries, where there are separate burial grounds for different castes. 7) Untouchablity is everywhere. 1. If I ask you to clean my toilet,would you do that gladly? 2. If you suffer from cold and fever, would you go to a poet for medicines? In a society everybody's jobs are well defined. Division of labour exists. Even a Sudra( a person from lower cast) can achieve his ultimate goal if he sticks to his own duties as defined in Hindu Barnashram arrangement 3.Mr Abdul Quyam Ansari at a Momin conference said" The Momains claim that they constitute half of the Moslem population in India, and yet the Shaiks, saiyads and pathans treat them as Dogs,pariahs and untouchables"They are repressed and suppressed by Muslim League and are never allowed to stand for the Legislature" this was quoted from an old publication. I admit that Sati and caste system are two causes of big shame to every Hindus although Sati was long abolished by the initiative of the great Bengali social reformer Raja Rammohan Roy, Gandhi created "Harijan" to keep alive the caste system (for political gain and as a gift to the feudal lords) and still it prevails very much in India, specially in the rural India. Indian Muslims and Christians are heavily influenced by Hindu culture has also inherited the caste system, there are OBCs among Muslims and Christians also.

CB@ one should not be ashamed of cast systems and sati, if somebody really have detailed knowledge. Let me give a small example from Biological point of view. Five endogamous populations were selected for a blood group study for Bramhins, rajputs, Kayasthas, Banias and muslims of Purnia districts of Bihar a few years back.The data were collected from door to door survey method.Only one person per family were tested.
Result: ABO Blood group: among Bramhins group A is most prevalant(38%), next common groupO(28%), B (27%), AB(7%), Among Banias Group B(45%), Group O and A are equal(20%),AB(15%), Among Muslims GroupO( 55%), B(25%). The RH factor-In all four populations Rh factor negative is higher among Muslims(4%),less in Kayastha(0%) , Among rajput and Baniya it is 2% in Bramhin it is 1%.Hence it is unscientific to claim that color of blood is the same for all casts and there is no difference between man and man. That is why Hindu shastras have spoken highly about cast system.
