The honourable chief minister of West Bengal, Smt. Mamata Banerjee does not not miss paying respect to any accomplished Bengali and today was not an exception. At Writer's Building, she paid homage to 100th birth anniversary of Deberata Biswas, a baritone Rabindra Sangeet singer and Shambu Mitra, a playwright and theatre personality but failed to send greetings to millions of Hindus who are celebrating Lord Krishna's birthday today.
But the chief minister is reported to be fasting for the whole Ramadan month and breaking her fast at Iftaar and so naturally many people are wondering whether she has converted to Islam. There is nothing wrong and it is her personal choice and if she has actually converted to Islam then the issue is settled there itself. But, if she has not and still remained a Hindu (as she is a Hindu by birth) then she will soon reach the top spot of All India Secular Ranking and it will be impossible to unseat her from the top spot by any other politician or social activist. Only if they perform Haj or multiple Umrahs, her number 1 position can be challenged. Comments (3) DannyM wrote on 23 August, 2011
CB@ Ms Banerjee is a Bramhin by accident! Those who donot officially believe in Allha are called "HIZAB-UL-SAITAN". Ms Banerjee is trying hard for muslim appeasement. But still she would remain a "Hizab-Ul-Saitan".She is unnecessarily trying to please muslims for the minority vote. Already through porous Indo Bangladesh borders the number of infiltrating Muslims are increasing day by day. The demographic picture of border districts of West Bengal are changing rapidly. The rate of growth of muslim population is very high in those region. The Muslims have already started troubling hindus. The recent incidence at Deyganga is an officially recorded. In the border districts every alternate day you would find a madrasa being erected which are mostly funded from middle east via Bangladesh. In these institutions the poor Muslim students are taught lessons from Koran, and they are deprived of modern education which could help them to get job. Ms Banerjee is encouraging these Madrasas.

Dannym, you have raised several issues here in one breath. So, take a deep one first, and then start again. I don't know much about Indian politics and even less about West Bengal politics. But I can say this: I am not surprised at politicians' trying their best to get support from different sections of the electorate; and if they can get it in a chunk it is even better (for them). However, to suggest (as you seem to be doing with your innuendoes) that it is somehow the reason for Muslims flooding through the borders into West Bengal is drawing a very long bow indeed, and frankly it stinks of bigotry.
