GOA IS GONER

GOA IS GONER Goa as a tourist destination is getting murkier by the day and night literally. Drug Mafia, Trance culture and cheap booze have spoilt the fun loving goan destination. We had a bitter experience in the year 2001 Jan when we were literally robbed right in front of Madgoan police station. It is purse snatching by bikers in front of hotel Asoka which is diametrically opposite to the police station. The station inspector took our complaint casually but within 10 minutes another Goan local lady was robbed. This made the SI angry and churned him to action, but the gang of bikers were well networked. We lost nearly 20 K and our complaint is still live in the police station at Margoa.

If the state tourism has to take any moral responsibility for the above dacoity in front of the Police station, they should compensate our value of loss after 7 years of man hunt. Now the target of the mafia and local dons have turned on to the foreign tourists. Rape and murder has become quiet frequent. The involvement of influential political big wigs and power lobby seems to adding fuel to the fire.

There are rumours that Russian Mafia has got entrenched into Goa, but it is a misnomer, because they will be easily identifiable. It is the local goons along with some outsiders who are causing disrepute to goan tourist destination. Most of the foreign embassies have already issued a warning advisory to their citizens. I think we domestic tourist should totally avoid Goa for next 3 years till some discipline is bought about. Anyway the recession blues will take care of such expensive destinations I suppose.

I was a regular visitor to Goa from 1983 to 2001. I used to enjoy every bit of Goan beaches, bikes and booze. But after a bitter experience I started hating Goa, which I am sure is a goner. For each case reported there must be at least 10 cases which go un reported. This leaves a bitter taste for a holidaying couple. If at all one has to visit Goa, please ensure that you all get back to your safety of hotel rooms by 6 pm. Goa is absolutely unsafe for lone women and couple seeking privacy & jay walking in the night. In case some of you all had a similar bad experience please record the same for posterity and warn members of the dangers.

Derebail, I have never been to Goa but recently coming across lot of crime news from this state, the last one was a real shocker, the state education minister's son is an alleged rapist and he is on the run! I am more shocked that Congress party whose chief is a woman has not demanded the resignation of this minister, instead he has beaten up the lawyer of the girl who was hospitalized with broken bones. It is certain now that foreign tourists specially women will think twice before visiting India specially when they are alone or not will a male company. It is such a shame for our country.

I wonder where are the human rights champions now, every time a terrorist is killed they make so much protest and now a 14 year old minor girl being raped by a Congress minister's son, there is complete silence from this quarter. Does not she deserve justice?
