Tulunadu consists of two districts that is dakshina Kannada and udupi district. Once upon a time dakshina Kannada was vast district with eight taluks. From August 1997 this was bifurcated into D.K. And Udupi districts. D.K. presently consists of five taluks viz. Mangalore, Bantwal, Puttur, Sullia, Belthangady taluks where as Udupi district consists of three taluks viz. Udupi, Kundapur and Karkal. These two districts together are called as Tulunadu. Since the most popular language in these regions is TULU. Tulunadu is one of the most enchanting place to travel. Though known for its religious places of worship, the place is blessed with green fields, water falls, beautiful beaches. Mangalore was named after the goddess Mangaladevi. The story behind goes along way in enriching the cultural heritage of Mangalore.
A trip to Mangalore is incomplete without watching the Classic "yakshagana" an elaborate dance - drama performance unique to Karnataka. A night-long event, with people adorned vibrantly, and dancing to the beat of drums, "yakshagana" performance attracts thousands of people. "HULIVESHA" (Tiger dance) is a unique form of folk dance in Dakshina kannada that fascinates the young and the old alike. Since tiger is considered as the favored carrier of Goddess Sharada. This dance is performed during the Dussera celebration. It is also performed during other festivals like Krishna Janmasthami. In Mangalore best dishes are neeru dosa, koli rotti, pundi, moode, kottige etc.. Fish curry is very special in Mangalore.. No one can prepare like Mangalore fish curry. Some of the famous actress or actor like Aishwarya Rai, Shilpa Shetty, Sunil Shetty, Amrita Rao, Deepika padukone etc.. I am very happy that I am a Mangalorean. We get different kinds of fishes which are very fresh and there are many fishers. Comments (33) talk2ankanjim wrote on 21 October, 2008

hello fire, are you a namboodri brahmin who according to god knows which scripture has to spend 8 hours in bathing (because they have to take between 22 to 49 baths in a day depending on the phase of moon)? bengalis cannot think of a mean without fish and it is very idiotic to think that fish eaters have to spray perfume all over the body after consuming fish. yes fish has a smell like many other substance has but if cooked properly there is no smell, fish is one of the delicacies and also it is very good food that gives good skin and hair, look at Japanese and Philippinas, they have a very high amount of fish and sea food in their diet, and if you talk about surrounding, please don't litter as any organic substance including rose can give very bad smell after rotting, so don't blame the fish, i think you have a mental block against the fish, do you know that even fish is offered to goddess durga?

Nothing can beat the Bengali style fish fry, "maachh bhaja" in mustard oil with only salt and turmeric powder, have it with chilled beer or as a part of your meal with rice (and a green chili), you can never get the taste, come to Kolkata and I will treat you :) It is the absolut like the absolut vodka!!!

There are some fish brahmins by the way did you know Jaanu, anyways for majority of the fish eaters here are different delicacies :
KANE FISH or Lady fish is no one choice, White Pamplet is next, Sardine and Mackrel is third, Prawns and Lobsters are another delicacy, Shell fish is another variety to savour. Squid if lovely, it is know as Bondas, Anjeer is another fish. There are other varities such as King fish, Salamon, Bat fish, Crabs etc. The varieties are mind boggling. Don tell me i have exhausted the range jaanu add to it. Ask mama cosmicbomber wrote on 22 October, 2008
Derebail2009, if you are taking a dig at me let me clarify that I am a Brahmin by birth, yes and I eat fish, chicken and mutton, all fishes but in Calcutta fresh water fishes are preferred over sea fish, my favorite is Hilsa or "Iilish" and other fishes like bata, chitol, and rui and katla of course. I chant gayatri mantra since my uponayan and there is no conflict with eating fish, Bengali brahmins are higly liberalised and don't forget Bengal was the epicenter of Indian renaissance, and it was spearheaded by many fish eating brahmins - lol. Even in vedic ages consuming meat and alcohol was very much part of everyday life.
derebail2009 wrote on 23 October, 2008
@ cosmic, well what made you think I am having a dig at you, if you are a bengali brahmin, eating fish is common among bengalis i know very well about that fact. People have ponds in their houses and breed fish and therefore consider it as vegetarian. Well if you eat other stuffs and are considering as brahmins than it is a new definition of brahmins. Now i hope you will not uneccessarily rake up minor issues for sake of creating a sensation.
spirited wrote on 23 October, 2008
Holy Cow! derebail! You don't know this? All Bengali brahmins eat fish, chicken, egg and mutton, in Lucknow our neighbors are Bengali, Banerjee and they eat chicken and mutton and fish in every meals! So in UP actually they are not considered high grade brahmins because of their non-veg eating habits.

@ Spirited, virgin beaches meaning less of crowd and pristine beaches. One enters some beaches and feels as if he owns the beaches now viriginity is slowly vanishing dear. Anyways comparatively you will find less crowd.
