Corruption is a Mutual Social Problem not a Religious Slogan.
It's shocking to read that Delhi's Shahi Imam Ahmed Bukhari has appealed to Muslims to stay away from Anna Hazare and his anti corruption brigade. Further the Shahi Imam says the protesters of Anna Hazare's movement are raising slogans such as 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' and 'Vande Mataram' which, according to him, are un-Islamic. It was nice to read that many prominent Islamic scholars in India have reacted strongly to Shahi Imam Bukhari's statement. Let me make it clear that Mr Anna Hazare is not forcing to sing Vande Mataram on anyone & there is nothing wrong if Muslims joined the campaign launched by the social activist. Shahi Imam's views are not based on religion or the Holy Book. It is very unfortunate that some Imams have a big scope to exercise their influence over Muslim society as they are supposed to regulate even their most private behaviour. Loving one's country and its people is a good trait of Muslims, as our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) has amply demonstrated. Expression of patriotism has nothing to do with worship, as there is neither prayer nor remembrance of God involved in it. Thus, it cannot be called a prohibited act. Corruption is a mutual social problem not a religious slogan. Corruption is not related with religion. A corruption free society benefits one and all. Being an Indian Muslim it's my right to fight corruption. Moreover, Islam orders us to do our best to become good citizens in the countries we live in. Muslims have to honor the laws of the country where they live as long as such laws do not contradict the teachings of Islam. I sincerely request my fellow citizens from all sections of society to fight against corruption & also there are many important issues like illiteracy, unemployment, poverty etc in our country which need to be taken up by everyone, including the religious scholars. Maz@ It proves that the Imam is misleading the Muslims. He is not finding any interest in the real issues which millions of Indians are finding important at this hour. People like Shahi Imam are not willing the Muslims to be in the main stream. Let us all be at first Indians then Hindus/ Muslims/ Christians etc. It is good to see that some Muslim scholars have rightly raised their voices against such thinking of the Imam.

I regret to say that the community has suffered a lot because of the negative approach of some intellectuals who use their super human wisdom to search out conspiracy angle in every thing ,however simple and straight.
If the Muslim community aspires to survive in India as a vibrant force, it will have to shun the present isolationist tendency and super intellectualism to invent conspiracy theories everywhere. Anna's movement is a national movement, cutting across all the party lines. We must try to see which way the wind is blowing. A new India is emerging. The future is going to see the gigantic changes on all fronts. It is like French Revolution which is bound to alter the course of events. It is the time for the community to discard the people with negative tendencies. We, as a Muslim must be with the rest of the country when national issues are involved, but side by side we must assert ourselves ...(Dr. Mustafa Kamal Sherwani,LL.D. Rightly said, Maaz Nawaz, there is no place for isolationism in Islam. If it were, then the religion would have been confined to Mecca and not spread to cover one-third of the population of the world. The world faces huge challenges and Muslims need to combine their energies with other population groups and seek common ground to fight against all social ills. This is what Islam teaches, and any Muslim who says otherwise does not deserve to be heard.
